met in spring 2020 during the creation of the show “La poésie de l’échec” – a play/dance/beatbox performance by the Marjolaine Minot Company, premiered at the Nuithonie Theatre in Fribourg.
A budding friendship and artistic love at first sight inspired them to create a mime/beatbox duo together, which would become THE TOONS.
The name is a contraction of the word “cartoon”, referring to their source of inspiration, the Looney Tunes cartoons. Their starting point was an immersion in this corrosive humour.
For both of them, it was an opportunity to realise a shared dream of creating a comic show with a profound, universal and poetic language, and to perform it all over the world.

The show
Suitable for all ages from 7 years old
Duration: 70 minutes
Kaboom! An extraordinary visual comedy in the form of live cartoons inspired by Tex Avery's cartoons and universe.
A mime artist and a beatboxer meet and caricature humans in a delightful language full of humour. One has an elastic body and constantly transforms himself, while the other invents all kinds of sound effects and music with his mouth.
Together, they hold up a distorting mirror to our daily lives, in which we recognise our contradictions, barriers, fragilities and buried impulses. All this is served up with liberating humour in the face of the absurdities of our human condition. The idea is to reveal ourselves to ourselves in an explosive cocktail that will have us laughing out loud!
The Toons also excel at improvisation. Driven by their extraordinary on-stage chemistry, they adapt with agility to each audience and each context to create unique and memorable moments.

Cultural mediation

The Kaboom show is also available in a version adapted for schoolchildren.
Designed for children aged 10 and above, this shorter, fast-paced format offers a fun immersion into the world of Toons, combining movement, visual humour and vocal sounds.

Beyond performance, The Toons also offer educational workshops in pairs, focusing on physical theatre, rhythm and voice.
These workshops are designed for schoolchildren, but are also open to all ages, with a focus on discovery, expression and shared creativity.
They convey and share their passion for stage performance, physical music and non-verbal communication, creating a space where everyone can explore their own imagination and discover that of others while having fun.

The Sketches
Events, galas, variety shows, dinner shows and private events.
In addition to the Kaboom show, The Toons offer excerpts from the show in the form of short, dynamic sketches, suitable for galas, parties, festivals, or unique events. These formats highlight their unique brand of humour.
Whether on a large stage, in a theatre or at a private event, their infectious energy and cartoon-like world make each performance a unique, funny, and lively experience.

In Geneva, "Kaboom", a show that goes "boom"
"You absolutely must see Julien Paplomatas and Florian Albin at the Alchimic in Geneva. In Geneva, the show ‘Kaboom’ is setting the Alchimic stage alight with a duo as unexpected as it is breathtaking: Julien Paplomatas, a beatboxer with an extraordinary mouth, and Florian Albin, a mime artist with an elastic body. Together, they fuse sounds and movements in a wordless creation that is bursting with energy and imagination, directed by Günther Baldauf with the collaboration of Marjolaine Minot. Their universe, at the crossroads of Tex Avery cartoons and revisited fairy tales, transports both young and old into a world where anything can explode — a rabbit devouring its magician, a horse rebelling, or a princess seeking her freedom. Enhanced by Jay Schütz's inventive lighting, ‘Kaboom’ captivates with its pinpoint precision between sound and movement: every sound and every gesture is perfectly coordinated. Funny, visual, and universal, this show offers a veritable theatrical fireworks display that speaks to everyone, without ever uttering a word."

The Toons, a slapstick duo from French-speaking Switzerland
The Toons, a slapstick duo from French-speaking Switzerland, thrilled audiences at the "Die Krönung Nr. 17" theater and comedy festival at the Casino Theater Burgdorf with an energetic beatbox-comedy show. The comedic duo creates an incredible cartoon-like universe where beatboxing and pantomime collide. Mischievous and playful, they bring objects to life, communicate with animals, confront the elements of nature, and humorously revisit pop culture classics. They stimulate the imagination and invite the audience to rediscover the wonder of childhood. Thanks to their combination of visual comedy, rhythm, and physical expression, they offered the audience a truly spectacular performance. During the festival, the audience bestowed titles of nobility. In Burgdorf, The Toons received the title of "Hofnarr." As part of the event in Aadorf, the Toons were also doubly crowned as "kings".
